World Alliance For Youth Empowerment

Insignia

Insignia was a fundraising event organized by the YES!+ chapter in Kolkata. This event saw the volunteers channelize their creative energy and come up with an evening of fun and laughter.

Why?

The funds raised were used for slum development projects and environmental drives. This theatre program was the first step towards organizing such innovative and entertaining ways to raise funds for in-house projects and plans are on to supplement these efforts with other such events.

When & Where?

Date: 21st September, 2007
Place: Kala Mandir, Kolkata

What?

The evening saw two very different plays unfold. Antigone, a wonderful yet tragic story based on a Greek mythology, tweaked various emotions and brought on a sombre mood. Mad Summer Night’s Dream, a spoof on Shakespeare’s Mid Summer Nights Dream, was the perfect antidote and left the audience in splits. The plays were followed by a scintillating dance performance.

Gaurav Agarwal, Businessman "Insignia has been a tangent to one of the biggest learning curves that I have experienced so far. It hasn’t just been a play or a concert, but taught me the power of collective positive thinking, where, I have been able to realize my strength, creativity and my reach within to bring out my hidden talents. I played two different roles and both were demanding on the personal level. The combined support of all participants helped me overcome it. It was a great ego-busting experience and taught me that the power of youth is unimaginable. I have been able to identify with myself better and also work in sync with people by creating a stress free and comfortable situation. Looking forward to such a great experiences again!"

Mukta Agarwal, Interior Designer "My experience in Insignia 2007 was amazing. It was a great feeling, as the cause for which we had put up Insignia was for those small slums called 'bastis' in Kolkata and for upliftment of the kids living in these slums. Apart from all this it was fun and we had a great time coming together as a family for doing something good."

Ankur Agarwal, Student "Insignia 2007 was an amazing experience for me. This was the first time that I performed on stage, something I could not dream of doing before I attended the YES!+ workshops. It was a very fulfilling experience, especially because I was associated with an event with a cause attached to it. I found many new skills within me, which has given me immense self-confidence and has made me feel that I can also make a difference to people around me."
